Second Quarter & Third Lower School Art
 | | Gabrielle Laurencelle First Grade | First and second grade classes discussed how lovely a snowfall can be, how snowflakes flutter down from the sky and land in the folds of trees, forming clumps of snow. In first grade, we stick to the lovely aspects of snow. (I don't mention how hard it is to dig out of compacted snow ;-) I read, "The Wintery Snowy Day" to help emphasize snow-filled images, but lucky enough it was snowing during class! We talked about how snow collects on branches and how branches get thinner as trees grow. The last step requested was to paint a red object or animal as a highlight to their winter scenes. | | Shea Harnishfeger First Grade |
Third and Fourth Grade studied Jim Dine hearts. We previewed several of Jim dine’s hearts and I explained that Jim Dine is considered an important contemporary artist who helped to create the Pop Art movement. He used different popular imagery in his art, but hearts seemed to be his favorite. Students were given the option to create a background that contrasts with their hearts or camouflages their hearts. Jim Dine used both techniques. | | Addie Laurencelle Fourth Grade |
