Student Government
The student council at Nantucket New School is also unique. Striving to establish student government as true service learning, the elected officers of the school reflect not a popularity hierarchy, but rather a commitment to service. The elected officers chair the three branches of the council: School Spirit, Community Service, and Global Outreach.
Each of these branches undertakes various projects throughout the year that may be as varied as lending a hand at the local food bank, visiting the elderly each Saturday morning, promoting school events like Crazy Hat Day, or adopting a sister school in another country. In addition, the student council sets the stage for performing year-long random acts of kindness, a celebrated tradition which takes all students at the Nantucket New School out into the community to spontaneously acknowledge and celebrate those people and organizations who are making a difference in our lives.
