Dear Families,
There are few decisions as exciting or as important as choosing a school with your child. Having choices among several options means having an opportunity to carefully weigh your child’s needs and interests and your family’s priorities against a school’s mission, philosophy, culture, and program. I am pleased that you have chosen to consider Nantucket New School, and I hope that the information contained in our website will serve as a useful starting point for your investigation.
There is nothing more valuable, however, than a personal visit as a means for assessing the potential match between your family and Nantucket New School. I have had many, many occasions over the course of my career to counsel graduating students with regard to their school choices, and I have learned that the school selection process is highly intuitive. You have likely developed parameters for your decision that might include size of classes, breadth of programming, strength of faculty, quality of facility, and strength of community. What a decision like this one often comes down to, however, is how it feels to you and your child when you are inside the School and able to interact with its inhabitants. A website or a conversation with a current or alumni family can be extremely useful, but nothing takes the place of being here. I hope that you will plan to make an appointment to visit.
