News & Updates 12/16/22

From Todd:

Today we scrambled a bit to get some classes covered. The combination of sickness and canceled ferries is a reality, and everyone helped out in a very special way to cover classes and combine classes and reschedule classes. The MVP of the day was current parent Marc Chibnik who I called at 8:30 and within minutes he was covering the 1st grade- Thanks Marc!!

I ended up teaching the gardening class for xblock today, and I can tell you without exception that I would take that group of students to Europe for a month. They were awesome, and I learned a lot about greenhouse operations from them. I was watching one student planting basil (a huge cash crop according to our green house consultant) and out of nowhere this youngster shouts, “planting seeds is so incredibly satisfying!” And then the student thanked me for subbing. Seriously? When I was in middle school, greenhouse duty was a detention that needed to be served after school, but these students love it. I am not optimistic about the asparagus seeds making it, but they were 50 percent off at Bartletts. A special thanks to the Benis for providing seeds for the class with less than a 20 minute notice!!! I am certain their lettuce is going to make it!!

Please make sure to join us for the Holiday concert on Wednesday. The school has been filled with children singing for the last two weeks, and I am certain they will bring us all plenty of holiday spirit. The Pre-K Candy Cane Dance truly is one of the highlights of my year.

Good luck with your weekend plans and two and a half more days of school!!!
Ever Grateful,
Todd Eveleth
