From Danielle:

Alphabet Countdown is here!
This Tuesday, April 30, marks the beginning of the end of the school year. Every year, kindergarten observes an alphabet countdown, which counts down the last 25 days of school with letter-themed days. The alphabet includes 26 letters, of course, but one day is a wedding between letters Q and U! Joke day is one of my favorites- kindergarten humor is the best. Last year, a student asked me “Why did the chicken cross the road?” Then answered “COW!” Sure, it made no sense, but those kindergarten giggles can’t be beat.
Animal Projects
Another major milestone in the school year is the annual first grade animal presentations! In Thursday’s morning meeting, students read their acrostic poems that ended with “What animal am I?” and then the rest of the Lower School had to guess. This time of year, our students are flexing their muscles and really demonstrating everything they’ve learned, and first graders showed some impressive public speaking skills. Well done, first grade!
Rube Goldberg Challenge
Upper School students participated in a Rube Goldberg Challenge today! If you’re not familiar, Rube Goldberg is best known for his “Inventions” cartoons, which use a string of outlandish tools, people, plants, and steps to accomplish everyday simple tasks in the most complicated way.
Student teams were rated on the number of components, success rate, creativity, use of recycled materials, and teamwork. After the Challenge began, I walked downstairs toward the Peace Garden, and it was so quiet that I wondered if I had the time or location wrong… you could hear a pin drop. The focus was intense, and it looked like so much fun. The winning team was Tomas, Sander, Stella, Beau, Olivia, Trey, Martha, Tomas, and Bea.

Have a great Daffy weekend!

Raising money for financial aid and programming has never been so quackin’ important!

Here's how it works: Students, families, and friends adopt rubber ducky racers. We race them and you join us at The Creeks to root for your ducks. The three most nimble ducks win awesome prizes! The students who sell the most duckies win awesome prizes too! The school wins your crucial support! EVERYONE WINS!
We are certain we can top last year’s success by counting on all of you to sell ducks and help promote rubber ducky adoptions with friends and family off-island. Our goal is to get 100% participation from our students.
Join us at The Creeks on May 18th at 11 a.m. to see if your rubber ducky makes it across the finish line first! Thank you in advance for your support! If you have any questions, please contact Kate Olson at: or 508-228-8569 ext. 302.
