News & Updates 4/25/25

From Amy:

At this point in the school year, administrators balance the demands of preparations for end-of-year festivities with looking towards September and another academic year. Behind the scenes, we’ve been confirming teacher positions, working on schedule re-design, and considering ways to enhance programming, especially Lower School science. I write today to share some of our plans, including shifts in staffing.

Laura Moore has decided not to return to full-time teaching and looks forward to serving New School students more part-time, focusing on math support. Emily Gaskin will “loop” with her third-grade students, moving into the role of 4th grade teacher next year. Tori Hope will continue in her graduate school program in education and will work as a learning support teacher next year. We will hire a third-grade teacher and start our interviewing process immediately. If you know of an excellent elementary teacher looking to join our community, please reach out! There are still a few moving pieces, and I will update parents in late May when our staffing plan is finalized.

In honor of the celebration of Earth Day, the 7th Grade invited me to join in their reader’s theater presentation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. Another fun Morning Meeting! I hope that the rains hold off and the Daffy festivities are wonderful!

Enjoy the weekend!

Warmly,

Head of School

Raising money for financial aid and programming has never been so quackin’ important!

Here's how it works: Students, families, and friends adopt rubber ducky racers. We race them and you join us on campus to root for your ducks. The three most nimble ducks win awesome prizes! The students who sell the most duckies win awesome prizes too! The school wins your crucial support! EVERYONE WINS!

We are certain we can top last year’s success by counting on all of you to sell ducks and help promote rubber ducky adoptions with friends and family off-island. Our goal is to get 100% participation from our students.

Join us on campus on May 9th at 11:30 a.m. to see if your rubber ducky makes it across the finish line first! Thank you in advance for your support! If you have any questions, please contact Kate Olson at: kolson@nantucketnewschool.org or 508-228-8569 ext. 302.
