Today may have been the most beautiful Field Day in recent history! It was a beautiful day for so many reasons, but importantly - it was the incredibly happy energy that students brought to school and the impressive leadership of the 8th graders. It isn’t an easy thing to lead the entire school community in a full day of outdoor activities, but our new PE teacher Reagan Hanson was spectacular! In partnership with the enthusiastic 8th grade, we had great day!
Stories from Campus So much happens in the course of a week! We asked faculty and staff to share a moment:
- I witnessed Parker (5th), Tyler (5th), and Adelina (4th) enthusiastically guiding the younger students, making sure they felt included. I want to commend everyone for their costumes, they were off the charts! Hairdos, tutus, sparkles, and more made the day extra special.
Johnathan (PK) had the best water balloon toss of the day! Megan reported that the whole PK group tried everything and demonstrated some real spirit and grit. First grade teacher Brenda said that she was proud of Chase (6th), who she saw helping one of the kindergartners who really needed encouragement. Music teacher Cory said he witnessed the best part of field day at NNS- rooting for each other! He said that after Libby (5th) was defeated in a rock, paper, scissors battle, that she stayed to cheer on her opponent! She wasn't the only one- even when their team lost and they had to move on, they just joined the other team with the same enthusiasm. Second grade teacher Lisa said that Nora (6th) took on a major leadership role on the red team, organizing as much as she could for their team. Francisco (2nd) kindly helped his team stay in line and on task. Riley (4th) was such a good sport, cheering for other teams—English teacher Stacey noted that Riley cheered on whoever was coming in last, and cheered the loudest. Even though running races might not have been a preferred activity, Phoebe (7th) volunteered to do a running relay twice to help her team, history teacher Forest said. Go Phoebe! Regan commended the 8th graders for being flexible and thinking on their feet to create more relay races when activities finished quickly. Congratulations on a job well done!
Upcoming Events - Please join us TONIGHT for a community celebration of our 40th anniversary on Friday afternoon from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on the New School side of the campus, grilling hamburgers and hot dogs as usual, with delicious side dishes from Island Kitchen, and even a 40th birthday cake!! Come one, come all! It will be a perfect ending to a very special day!
- Please mark your calendars for our Annual Meeting and Back-to-School night: Thursday, September 25th at 6:00 pm. Teachers are already preparing their presentations, eager to give you a peek into the daily routines, curriculum planned, and events throughout the year. We are very hopeful that everyone will line up their babysitters and join us for this parent event.
- Upper School students will be headed off campus next week - to join the Outdoor Classroom. Fifth and sixth graders will be at Camp Wingate Kirkland, while the seventh and eighth graders will be at Eisner Camp in Great Barrington. I am eager to travel off-island to join the students on these adventures, spending time with all of the grades. More stories from the trips to be included next week!
Enjoy the weekend!
With gratitude, Amy Vorenberg Head of School |
