From Amy: Warmest greetings! We’ve had a wonderful week, welcoming students to their classrooms and getting to know each other. There’s been settling into routines, learning new rules, and being reminded of how special this community is.
Stories from Campus So much happens in the course of a week! We asked faculty and staff to share a moment:
I noticed a moment was particularly heartwarming – when Lewis (K), a new student, introduced himself to the whole school at Morning Meeting. I asked him what grade he was in and his response was priceless – “I’m not in a grade. I’m in Kindergarten!” He went on to provide us with good insights into how to be a good audience: “Listen, calm your body, and don’t kick anyone.” Excellent advice! Each September, teachers always observe how much children grow over the summer; sometimes in height, sometimes in independence! PK teacher Annie said that they noticed how Peach (PK) and her brother, Porsche (K), had enjoyed a close relationship last year when they were in preschool together. This year, as Porsche started kindergarten, Peach showed that she was ready to be independent. When she saw him at morning meeting, she smiled at him and waved, and then stayed happily with her class. Third grade teacher Andie noticed that Parker (3rd) demonstrated remarkable leadership during their morning work time. When some students finished early and were told they could chat quietly or read, Parker came over and asked, "Could I help my classmates instead?" She spent time with several classmates who had questions. Eli (7th) did a great job of cleaning up when he noticed a mess after math class, Tim observed. He said that Eli didn't look for any adults or ask for help—he just took care of it. Faculty said that they appreciated the personal notes that 4th grade wrote about how excited they are to be back in school and how eager they are to have a great year. Jane said that two students lost a tooth this week! She said she had to laugh when Max (2nd), decided to hang his tooth necklace outside on a tree. A classmate discovered it and returned it just in time!
