Today’s stories aren’t from our campus. This week, the Upper School students have spent time at two campsites: 5th & 6th graders at Camp Wingate Kirkland in Yarmouth Port and 7th & 8th graders at Eisner Camp in Great Barrington. Spending time away from campus, away from family and daily routines, allows students to get to know each other in new ways, to tackle new activities, and build bonds. I had the pleasure of joining the 7th and 8th graders at Eisner Camp - and it was a joy to watch them in action as they enjoyed the outdoor experiences, staying in dorm rooms, and having an adventure in the Berkshires. For me, it provided time to have different kinds of conversations with individuals and to enjoy their collective energy!
Stories from the 7th & 8th Graders Camping Experience - Many students spotted a porcupine on the trail during their outdoor adventure, and the class quickly named their new friend Alfred. Sander (7th) had an amazing experience walking through a giant pipe that ended at a spectacular waterfall—what an unforgettable moment!
- Stella (7th) and Maya (7th) worked with their group to launch water rockets built with water, cardboard, rocks, soda bottles, cardstock, and duct tape. Their engineering skills paid off when the rockets soared higher than the trees! Unfortunately, Boden (7th), Caleb (7th), Sander (7th), and Boya (7th) had an unexpected encounter when someone stepped on a wasp nest. Thankfully, there were no allergic reactions and everyone recovered quickly.
- The group achieved something remarkable by climbing all the way to a peak in the Southern Berkshires—what determination! Tripp (7th) had quite the story to tell about Drew (7th) nearly sliding off a cliff. As Tripp put it, "It was epic!" Olivia (8th) and her group were confident they almost caught a beaver using bread on makeshift fishing poles. Becket (8th) initially thought it was a fish, which made the discovery even more exciting.
- The crew showed excellent teamwork when they successfully caught a fish using a casting net, working together to make it happen.
Upcoming Events Please plan on joining us on Thursday, September 25th, for an important evening for the New School. Our Annual Meeting begins at 6:00 pm. After the Annual Meeting, teachers will shared their “Back-to-School” presentations, sharing important information about classroom curriculum and routines. This is an event for parents & caregivers, so please arrange for babysitters at home!
Enjoy the weekend!
With gratitude, Amy Vorenberg Head of School Photo of the week! Grade 4 and their parents competed to find out... "How well do you know your fourth grader?" Where would your child want to travel to? Ashly's prediction: Jamaica Andrew: Cincinnati Overall winner: Emily Hollister! She accurately predicted the answers of both Everett and Owen. Amazing! |
