From Amy:

Thank you for coming out last night in such numbers to join in the Annual Meeting and to hear from teachers about the plans for the academic year!  Many wonderful things are happening at the New School, and we are delighted that so many were able to attend this important evening.

In the past week, I’ve had the benefit of hearing some stories from many from outside our community who have seen our students in action and are incredibly impressed!  This week’s stories reflect some of those comments, including.

Stories about our Nantucket New School students
  • One of the crew members at the Steamship Authority was struck by Upper School students loading their bags into bins when they returned from their camping trips last week.  “These kids are impressive.  Every single one of them said thank you.”
  • Teachers reported that praise is a common occurrence when they take students off campus. People say, “You can tell when it’s a New School student!”
  • We held a Boarding School Fair on Monday evening in the Great Hall, with over a dozen schools in attendance.  An admission rep from The Governor's Academy told us,  “I absolutely love this school. It’s such a special place, and your students are some of the kindest I’ve ever met. They are curious and want to leave the world better than they found it!”
Upcoming Events

It’s hard to believe that we’ll turn the calendar to October next week.  Dates to note in October include:
  • Friday, October 3rd:  Morning Meeting will feature voices from the Hispanic community on Nantucket, honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month.
  • Friday, October 10th: No School (professional development day)
  • Monday, October 14th: No School (Indigenous Peoples’ Day)
  • Friday, October 31st: Halloween! Costumes are welcome, but please keep them non-scary for our youngest students.

Enjoy the weekend!

With gratitude,

A bountiful harvest

Harvest Bash planning is underway! We are looking for your support:
  • Do you have a residence off-island that you'd be willing to donate for a long weekend? Access to an experience that isn't easily available for purchase? A service that you'd donate? Access to advance reservations? Consider donating to the Harvest Bash, our most important fundraising event of the year!
  • We also need decor: vintage books with cloth covers, tea cups, mismatched picture frames or any color or size.
