From Danielle:

Teacher Appreciation
We have all enjoyed a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week here at NNS! Generous parents and friends have provided us with lunches, sweet treats, massages, wine, and more! Then at today’s morning meeting, Kindergarten and 1st grade students presented individual portraits they created in Art class to each teacher. Before the week officially ends, I would like to add my own appreciation to this group of incredibly talented, inspirational, creative, and caring educators. It has been a joy to work with you!

Summer Reading
Summer is around the corner and although we will all enjoy the break, teachers never stop thinking about how to best support their students. Educators around the world are taking note of the impact technology and social media are having on our students; it’s a conversation we’re having at NNS as well. This summer, our faculty will read The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt. We invite parents to read the book with us and join the conversation. As educators, we will continue to explore how we can best support our students in a world that is increasingly reliant on technology.

Plant Sale
This Wednesday, May 15, we will have a plant sale on the NNS and SW porches to fund greenhouse programming. All plants are $5, except the spider plants, which are $30. Cash or venmo accepted. Plants available: tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, kale, and peppers.

Welcome, Amy!
Before we all scatter in different directions for the summer, we hope you will join us for the annual Summer Kickoff Party on Thursday, June 6th from 5-7 PM right here on campus. (Please note the new date.) Incoming Head of School Amy Vorenberg will be here as well, so please come by to welcome her to our community in person. Island Kitchen is generously donating its catering services to the event. It promises to be a wonderful kickoff into the summer season!

Have a great weekend.

Warmly,
Danielle Henry Beale
Interim Head of School

One More Week Until Our 5th Annual Great Nantucket Duck Race!

Here's how it works: Students, families, and friends adopt rubber ducky racers. We race them and you join us at The Creeks to root for your ducks. The three most nimble ducks win awesome prizes! The students who sell the most duckies win awesome prizes too! The school wins your crucial support! EVERYONE WINS!

We are certain we can top last year’s success by counting on all of you to sell ducks and help promote rubber ducky adoptions with friends and family off-island. Our goal is to get 100% participation from our students.

Join us at The Creeks on May 18th at 11 a.m. to see if your rubber ducky makes it across the finish line first! Thank you in advance for your support! If you have any questions, please contact Kate Olson at: kolson@nantucketnewschool.org or 508-228-8569 ext. 302.
