Black History Month
Cory Morgan, father of PK student Jael, came to speak with Upper School students yesterday about Black History Month. He told the students that this month gives us an opportunity to do two things - to celebrate the history and accomplishments of Black people and to recognize the challenges Black people overcome. He highlighted inventors Garrett Morgan (traffic light) and Alexander Miles (automatic elevator doors), as well as Shania Muhammad who, at 16 years old, graduated college and became the youngest salaried Black teacher in the US. As he wrapped up, he happened to mention that he could solve a Rubik’s Cube in under a minute and Matt challenged him to a demonstration. Much to everyone’s delight, he did it…in 40 seconds! Cory will be speaking to the Early and Lower Schools next Thursday. Thank you Cory!

STEM-X
This year's STEM-Exhibition did not disappoint. The 7th and 8th graders researched their topic of choice, independently designed experiments, meticulously collected data, and pulled it all together into one polished report/presentation. My favorite part of the day was taking a quiet moment with one of the presenters in the Great Hall, and talking about priorities. This project has the weight of a capstone because it is one, and these students have an amazing perspective on it all and take it in stride. They're proud of their work (beaming smiles!) and were eager to share their findings with anyone stopping by. Congratulations, 7th and 8th graders!

A team of local scientists judged the projects and the top three from each grade will advance to the Regional Science Fair at St. Regis College in March.
